Trains operated by First Capital Connect which travel towards Brighton stop at East Croydon. These trains pass through the following stations in London: West Hampstead Thameslink, Kentish Town, King's Cross Thameslink, Farringdon, City Thameslink, Blackfriars and London Bridge. Note that the Thameslink stations at West Hampstead and King's Cross are a short walk away from the other railway or underground stations with the same name. There are some trains running on this line throughout the night. The night trains stop at West Hampstead Thameslink, King's Cross Thameslink and Blackfriars, but not at all of the other London stations on the line. Approximate train journey times: West Hampstead to East Croydon: 40 minutes; London Bridge to East Croydon: 15 minutes. There are frequent trains operated by Southern Railway from Victoria train station in London to either West Croydon or East Croydon. This may be particularly convenient if you are travelling by coach to London, as most coaches finish at Victoria coach station (see: Travel/Transport/Coach. If you are travelling from Oxford, note that there are coach services operating throughout the night). During the night there are trains each hour from Victoria to East Croydon. Approximate train journey times: Victoria to East Croydon: 20 minutes; Victoria to West Croydon: 35 minutes. Shopping

Croydon is generally regarded as the second largest shopping centre in the south east, after Central London. It has two large covered shopping centres in the Whitcroft and the Centrale, with plans in place for a large new shopping centre called Park Place.

You'll find all the major high street shops, supermarkets and department stores in Croydon, and if there's anything that's not covered you have the whole of London to explore.

Leisure

Being so close to Central London there'll never be a shortage of ways to fill your leisure time. Croydon itself is home to endless diversions, apart from the usual shopping, eating and drinking. There are numerous arts and entertainment venues including the Fairfield Halls - a large concert hall frequently used by the BBC - The Warehouse Theatre, the Ashcroft Theatre and the Arnhem Gallery. Croydon Clocktower houses a library, museum and the David Lean Cinema.

Sports enthusiasts will find several golf courses within striking distance, numerous leisure and fitness centres plus facilities for everything from horse riding in the park to sailing on South Norwood Lake. There's also the impressive Croydon Sports Arena for athletics.

For great days out that don't involve shopping, venture into the countryside or head for the South Coast - Brighton is a popular destination and easily reached by train.

Education

There are plenty of good schools in Croydon, ranging from nurseries to further education. There are state and independent schools, and several are within a mile of the development.

Croydon College offers a Sixth Form and university level courses. Croydon is also home to the London School for Performing Arts & Technology, known as the BRIT School.

Transport

Croydon has excellent transport links, and at Aura you'll be able to make good use of East Croydon railway station which is in Travelcard Zone 5, for trains to London Bridge and London Victoria. It's on the London - Gatwick - Brighton line and serves stations throughout Sussex, Surrey, Kent and London.

The station is also a Tramlink stop with services to Elmers End, Beckenham Junction, New Addington, Purley, Wimbledon and more. There are also two other train stations in the town, West & South Croydon. Both Gatwick and Heathrow can be reached by train from Croydon.

The A23 which bypasses the town leads into Central London and down to the M25.

Health

There are numerous local GP and dental surgeries, with the Mayday Hospital providing a wide range of health services including Accident & Emergency.
