New retirement apartments planned for sale in Saffron Walden, Essex

Full Details

Saffron Walden is a picturesque, medieval town in north west Essex, 12 miles from Bishops Stortford and 15 miles from Cambridge. The town retains a rural appearance and has many buildings dating back to the medieval period.  A market has been held here since 1141, and market days are now Tuesdays and Saturdays.  Beyond the market place in Saffron Walden, there are plenty of independent shops and eating places, as well as interesting historic buildings in the town.

Attractions of interest include Saffron Walden Museum with the ruins of the Castle keep in its grounds, and Bridge End Garden which has been carefully restored to its Victorian splendour and includes a hedge maze.  There is also a Common to the east of the town with the largest turf labyrinth still surviving in Europe.  The ‘path' through the turf winds for about one mile within the 30m circle diameter.

Saffron Walden is well served by transport, with the M11 motorway, and a branch railway line connecting London to Cambridge, and plenty of local buses serving the surrounding towns and villages of Debden, Duxford, Littlebury, Howlett End, Great Chesterford, Ickleton and Sewards End.

Situated on South Road, these retirement flats will enjoy a convenient position close to shops and facilities, and only a mile away from one of England's grandest stately homes, Audley End House and Gardens.

We are delighted to announce that the Saffron Walden development has been granted planning permission.  It is our intention to construct independent living retirement flats for the over 60's.

The retirement apartments will be managed by a house manager who will oversee the running of the building including maintenance of the grounds and building. Key retirement living related features of the development will include a communal residents' lounge, a guest suite, laundry room and a lift that will provide access to all floors.

The perfect environment for those in retirement, homes in this retirement development will each contain a bedroom, living room, kitchen and bathroom with selected two bedroom apartments having a bath and separate shower cubicle and cloakroom. All one bedroom apartments are anticipated to have the option of a bath or shower.

Housebuilder

Over the past 30 years, the McCarthy & Stone Group has become Britain's leading builder of retirement apartments, responsible for the construction of more than 40,000 homes for more than 45,000 customers.

Just five years after building our first apartments in New Milton, Hampshire, McCarthy & Stone became a public limited company, and in 1984, achieved full listing on the London Stock Exchange.

The following years saw further success and expansion, with the late Diana, Princess of Wales, opening a new, purpose-built head office in 1987, and an Assisted Living Division being established in 1999 to develop housing to bridge the gap between conventional retirement developments and residential care.

In 2006 McCarthy & Stone reverted to private ownership to continue its growth and now has national coverage through 5 Regional offices, in addition to the Bournemouth headquarters.

Through our commitment to meeting the real and changing needs of the retired, our name has become synonymous with retirement living at its most enjoyable and rewarding.
