Brian and Judy Roe at Cobham Grange in Surrey from Banner Homes
Being retired has not meant leading an inactive lifestyle for Brian and Judy Roe, who take part in a number of communal activities at Cobham Grange in Surrey, an over-55s' development from Banner Homes. From bingo to bridge, quizzes to Christmas parties, the residents of the development have a lively roster of regular events that the couple both enjoy.
Brian says: "A change of lifestyle was always on the agenda for us and an over-55s' development such as Cobham Grange seemed like the ideal place to do so. We knew that the residents would be a similar demographic to us and we were made to feel very welcome. The first thing we noticed about Cobham Grange was its visual appeal; the development is very well presented and everybody wishes to maintain a high standard. Another huge advantage is that we can just lock up and leave at any time. The entire development is very secure and we don't have to worry about any on-going maintenance such as taking care of the garden."
He adds: "If I were to give some advice for others doing the same it would be to make the move sooner rather than later and be prepared to seriously de-clutter! You need to accept that you are moving into a smaller property and you will no longer need certain items."
Cobham Grange is now sold out, but spurred on by the enthusiasm for the development, Banner Homes has recently launched another age-exclusive development in the Home Counties, Glebelands in Wokingham, Berkshire. This time, the company has introduced a new twist to over-55s living.
Shelley West, sales director for Banner Homes Central, explains: "The concept creates a hotel environment for everyday life including a concierge service. The concierge is also available to take delivery of your shopping, greet your guests and assist you with any day to day tasks you may have, such as reserving a table at your favourite restaurant. The development also includes a unique clubhouse complete with kitchen and large TV, for social events with other residents, such as coffee mornings or cinema nights or for your own private hire. There is also a beauty salon on site for visiting hairdressers, beauticians and aromatherapists. It really is the best of both worlds as residents can still have the privacy and space of their own apartment or cottage."
Prices for the high-specification apartments and houses for sale at Glebelands start at £250,000 for a one-bedroom apartment, £300,000 for a two-bedroom apartment and £400,000 for a two-bedroom cottage. The development is open seven days a week from 10.00am to 5.00pm for would-be buyers to speak to the Banner Homes team.
