The Kent Wildlife Trust was on site at Berkeley Homes' Holborough Lakes development recently to show some of the families living at the development all about the abundance of wildlife that surrounds them. These new homes in Kent are close to the River Medway and the famous Medway towns, yet the development boasts a real variety of habitats, flora and fauna - and the children were fascinated by the things that they discovered about where they live.
"Holborough Lakes was the perfect venue for a wildlife event as there are numerous natural areas for local wildlife to thrive," says Mary Blackwell from Kent Wildlife. "The children really enjoyed exploring the development, learning about frogs, bats and hedgehogs and loved creating their own mini beast homes. We would encourage everyone to help our local wildlife survive the winter months ahead by making their own wildlife home from existing household materials."
With a variety of home types available, from studio apartments to four-bedroom houses, Berkeley Homes has created a growing community at Holborough Lakes that is surrounded by water, mature woodland and verdant open spaces. With prices starting at £134,950, a new home in this delightful setting is well within the means of many house hunters who will really appreciate the diversity of the ecology in the area. The latest phase, called The Nightingales, has adopted local Kentish architectural styles, providing a contrast to the New England colonial style of some previous phases at the scheme.
As well as preserving a number of existing habitats, the Berkeley Homes team introduced a number of artificial homes around the site to house bats, bugs and ladybirds. Appreciation of the natural world is just one of the great reasons that Holborough Lakes is especially suitable as a family home: it's also a safe environment that is great for walking and cycling round, boasting dedicated children's play areas and there's even a Dive & Watersports Academy on the site for active residents to enjoy.
Tina Dedman, Sales and Marketing Director of Berkeley Homes, says: "We would like to thank Kent Wildlife for taking the time to come along to Holborough Lakes to show us all how we can help local wildlife at this time of the year. If people would like to find out more information, a nature explorer's leaflet with lots of facts and advice is available in our Sales and Marketing Suite."
With its location close to the M2, M20 and M25, as well as a local rail service that links in minutes to High Speed services and commuter routes from Strood, Holborough Lakes makes a splendid location for commuters too, and with places such as Leeds Castle, Bluewater Shopping Centre and Buckmere Park on hand, it there is plenty to do in the neighbourhood to keep the whole family happy.
