New affordable homes launched at award-winning Highbury Gardens scheme

Still celebrating its recent success at the London Planning Awards, where it won the accolade Best New Place to Live, Highbury Gardens is now offering 39 new affordable homes for sale to homebuyers in the capital. The mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments are available on a shared ownership basis, with prices starting at £68,750 for a 25% share from Southern Housing, on their part of the scheme by urban regeneration specialists First Base. All the open market homes have already sold out.

Even with such a low entry price, these affordable new homes in London certainly do not compromise on quality. The interior specification includes under-floor heating, video entry, integrated appliances by Bosch and Sky+ readiness. Most homes will have a private balcony and some will have views over neighbouring Highbury Fields, a public space with parkland, tennis courts and a fitness centre. There's also a courtyard to the scheme with a landscaped garden and benches, for the private use of residents.

Its environmental credentials are also superb, utilizing solar panels on the roof to reduce carbon emissions by 16%, whole-house ventilation, rainwater harvesting and integrated recycling system in each home. Overall, 20% of the development's energy demands are on by renewable energy sources on site. Mayor Boris Johnson has called it "a compelling approach to elegance and sustainability in inner city living".

Highbury Gardens is only two minutes from Highbury & Islington station, a superb transport hub for buses, tubes and Overground trains. Local, regional, intercity, High Speed and Eurostar rail services are all easily accessible here, or from Kings Cross St Pancras, just one stop down the Victoria Line.

Islington is a lively and affluent neighbourhood, boasting an array of international cuisine, vibrant nightlife, and numerous cultural and entertainment venues. Shoppers will also find much to keep them busy, with an indoor mall, high street stores side-by-side with many independent outlets, along with a famous antiques market and regular market in Chapel Street for great fresh produce, bargain clothing and household goods.
