High demand for affordable homes in Wimbledon

There is just one home remaining at Thames Valley Housing's new Merton Road development in South Wimbledon, after eight out of the nine apartments were reserved at the recent launch of the scheme.

The last property on offer at the development is available through shared ownership, the part buy; part rent government initiative, which aims to help people step onto the property ladder.

Set within a three-storey building, eight of the new homes will be dual aspect with a few of the units having a separate kitchen/dining area to the living room.

The development received over 380 enquiries from the Thames Valley Housing website and the launch which took place on 19th January was attended by 59 potential buyers.

Kush Rawal, assistant director (Sales & Marketing) at Thames Valley Housing, comments: "We always expected there to be huge amount of interest in the properties at Merton Road due to their location and the lack of more affordable properties available in this part of south west London. We were astounded by the high level of enquiries we received both before the launch and the number of attendees on the open day. This reinforces that as a result of decreasing stock levels and increasing house prices in London, buyers are exploring alternative routes to get onto the property ladder and demand for shared ownership is not diminishing."
