Construction work has started on a scheme that could see up to 550 new homes built in the market town of Wellingborough in Northamptonshire.
Barratt Homes will deliver 80 new homes in phase one of the Ladywell Park development, located off Eastfield Road, which got underway this week. But the housebuilder has expressed an interest in building a further 470 residential units, and has already received outline planning permission from Wellingborough Council.
The development will feature eventually feature 14 two-bedroom houses, 42 three-bedroom houses, four flats and 20 three and four-bedroom three-storey town houses, with prices starting from £147,995.
Cllr Martin Griffiths, vice-chairman of the planning committee, told the press: "This is an important development on what was a disused, industrial factory. The site was dangerous and an eyesore and there was very little local objection to the application.
"It will provide much-needed housing for the ongoing development of the town and we'll be delighted to see work start on the first phase."
Completion of the first phase is scheduled for August this year.
