Up to 500 new homes, including a large proportion of affordable homes will be built in New Southgate, situated in the London Borough of Enfield, after a £100m deal was struck between Enfield Council, Grant Prior Mulalley and One Housing Group.
The new homes will be built as part of the New Ladderswood regeneration project in New Southgate, with about 40% devoted to affordable housing. The project is expected to take about five years to complete.
The first phase of new build homes are scheduled for completion in 2014, subject to the necessary planning consent being obtained. A detailed application will reportedly be submitted in February.
According to the plans, there will also be a new community centre, a new hotel, over 4,000sqm of commercial space and a park.
Eamon O'Malley, director of Mulalley, said: "This is an exciting opportunity to regenerate and uplift this overlooked part of London and provide excellent quality homes in a new dynamic location where people will want to live and work."
Alan Williams of One Housing Group commented: "There is a real shortage of affordable homes across London and to be investing £100m into this regeneration in the current climate shows our commitment to Enfield and the surrounding area."
