Plans for 800 new homes scheme on Tyneside

Date:

Friday 9th December 2011

Housebuilder Places for People has submitted a planning application for the construction of 800 new homes on Tyneside, as part of a £140m regeneration scheme.

If planning is approved, the new homes will be built on a former shipbuilding site along the river bank on Smiths Dock in North Shields, along with a small selection of retail units.

The new homes developer should have a good chance of gaining planning permission after consulting local businesses, residents and North Tyneside Council before finalising their plans.

Nigel Brewer of Places for People told the press: "Today's planning application marks an important phase in the history of Smiths Dock.

"This is the start of its revival, where the site will, once again, become a destination for local people to live, work and socialise."

Places for People has developed a reputation for delivering top quality mixed-use developments, winning numerous accolades, including a gold award in the Best Mixed Use Development at the 2009 What House? Awards for its Wolverton Park development in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.
