Housebuilders Persimmon and Bloor Homes have submitted planning applications for the construction of 171 new homes on two sites in south Bridgwater, Somerset.
Bloor Homes, which began building residential properties over 35 years ago, wants to develop 71 new homes as well as garages on land at Campion Way.
Meanwhile, a public consultation is already well underway on a separate proposal by Persimmon Homes Severn Valley to construct 100 new homes on a vacant field located north of Dawes Farm. The developer delivered leaflets to 200 homes near the Dawes Farm site, as part of the process.
But Persimmon Homes has no plans to develop affordable homes as part of the scheme. The developer will instead fund the construction of affordable housing on a separate site in the region, as well as invest in in a new footpath and cycle path.
In a statement, Persimmon said: "Development of this site for housing will assist in building a strong, competitive economy in South Bridgwater."
Sedgemoor District Council is expected to make a final decision on the two planned new homes schemes later this year.
