Outline planning consent has been awarded for developer Westfield to construct over 1,500 new homes in White City as well as extend the existing shopping centre in west London.
According to the plans initially approved by the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, the developer will develop up to 1,522 new homes, add just over 52,000sqm of retail space as well as deliver a selection of new restaurants, cafes, office space and new green areas.
As far as the new homes are concerned, these would be delivered in three separate blocks, ranging in height from eight to 20 storeys. The scheme would also include up to 250 affordable homes.
"We are naturally very pleased with the decision", said Duncan Bower of Westfield. "The incorporation of quality housing of this scale will further complement the vibrancy of the location and provide a further catalyst for the ongoing regeneration of the White City Opportunity Area."
Harry Phibbs of Hammersmith & Fulham council described the decision to approve construction of the new homes as a much needed boost to the local economy and community.
He remarked: "This development is bringing positive change, improvements and jobs to an area that needs revitalising."
