Planning consent has been approved for the construction of more than 200 new homes in Wales.
Councillors gave the proposals presented by Persimmon Homes to construct 209 new homes at the former Panteg Steelworks site in Avondale Road, Sebastopol in Pontypool the go-ahead at a meeting this week. The Panteg Steelworks closed in 2004.
The new development will feature two, three and four-bedroom houses which will be a mixture of detached, semi-detached and terraced buildings. The new housing scheme will be built in two phases.
Additional facilities will include an outdoor children's playing area and land for the possible construction of a primary school to serve Sebastopol and Griffithstown.
An outline planning application was initially approved in December 2008 for the site to be used for the construction of new build homes, and since then major clearance work has been undertaken to remove all of the buildings and structures from the site.
New home developer Persimmon will implement sound insulation measures in some of the new homes to reduce potential noise levels.
