Almost 100 new affordable homes will be constructed in Borehamwood, as part of a wider affordable housing initiative in Hertfordshire.
Hightown Praetorian & Churches Housing association has announced plans to develop 96 new homes on Studio Way.
A total of 26 of the new homes will be available for shared ownership, 29 are part of a rent to buy scheme, while 31 properties will be available under a social rent initiative.
The new homes will be aimed at people who cannot afford to purchase a property outright, such as those on housing waiting lists with Hertsmere Borough Council.
Emma Crump of Hertsmere Borough Council said: "There has been a rise in the demand for social and affordable housing.
"There are several reasons for this including lack of development and people going through a tough economic times."
The first new residents are expected to be able to move in to the new homes in September this year and are part of wider plans to build over 500 new affordable homes in Hertfordshire.
