Demand for new homes in Devon is improving helping to improve local new housing market conditions, according to one of South Devon's biggest housebuilders.
Linden Homes, formerly Midas Homes, has seen a rise in the volume of reservations made for its new homes in Devon, indicating growing signs of stability.
Bill Cawse, managing director of Linden Homes South West, told the press: "It's still difficult but it's certainly an awful lot better than it was a year ago.
"We have also had some off plan sales on new schemes which we haven't seen for a long time."
Cawse insists that the lack of mortgages is still deterring more people from buying new homes, but he said that he had noted a rise in sales, including off-plan units, "which we haven't seen for a long time."
Cawse added: "The biggest single issue is the availability of mortgages for buyers and the size of deposit required. There is a very small light at the end of the tunnel which is gradually starting to get brighter in that banks and building societies are starting to lend more and offer preferential terms for some mortgages."
Linden Homes is actively acquiring more land with a view to building more new homes to meet growing demand.
