Mill Meadows is a family-friendly development of 300 new homes, being constructed by Coast & Country Developments, on the edge of the coastal town of Filey, has been officially launched.
The scheme, which is being part funded by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), will also provide 120 much required affordable homes.
"It is fantastic to see how Coast & Country are using our investment to make a difference by providing such high quality affordable family homes - the first in Filey for a long time," said Naz Parkar, head of Area at the HCA.
To mark the official launch and opening of the show homes, Dickie Bird the legendary cricket umpire over saw a mock cricket match, watched by Naz Parkar.
Dickie Bird then signed the cricket bat, which was auctioned at the event in aid of his charitable foundation that helps young people participate in sport.
Dickie Bird said: "I am bowled over by what Coast & Country is doing in Filey. As a proud Yorkshire man, it is great to see that Coast & Country is building first-class homes to meet the housing needs of local people. It is important for an individual's sense of security, stability and wellbeing to have a high quality roof over their heads. Mill Meadows is in a lovely setting and will provide a good standard of living for people of all ages."
The two show homes, which are now open to the public, are a detached and a terraced house representative of the 39 styles that will be built, as part of the overall design that is inspired by Georgian and Victorian planning to honour Filey's genteel past.
Mill Meadows will offer 180 new homes for sale, 60 available for shared ownership and 60 for rent providing a sustainable mixed tenure community.
The new homes, which are being built to Code for Sustainable Homes level 4, will be energy efficient, economical to run and built to high standards with quality fixtures and fittings.
Additional community facilities will form a key part of the development with the inclusion of a large area of open space that will incorporate a leisure trail, areas of play and form a natural habitat for wildlife.
Iain Sim, Coast & Country chief executive, said: "At Mill Meadows, we are creating a community fit for 21st century living that will meet the needs of a wide range of people. Whether people are just starting out with a first place of their own, moving up the property ladder or downsizing after retirement, Mill Meadows, with its offering of two, three, four or five bedroom properties, will have a home that fits the bill."
