Housebuilder wants to build new homes in Devon

Date:

Wednesday 13th July 2011

Torbay-based housebuilder Cavanna Homes is hoping that its planning application to build 62 new homes, including affordable homes, on agricultural land in Kingskerswell, Devon, will be approved, despite some local opposition.

The housebuilder insists that the proposed new homes development on a 5.9-acre site near Charles Road, which plans to include 22 affordable homes, would suit a wide range of buyers and help plug the shortage of new homes in Devon, due to a mixture of bedroom sizes.

Ian Pugsley, head of planning at Cavanna Homes, told the press: "We are looking at providing homes that will suit every type of need and every type of pocket.

"We have included a bungalow at the entrance to the proposed development which can be for someone living with disabilities. Homes for people with special needs are a priority and Teignbridge Council asked us if we were able to incorporate that.

"We have come up with this outline plan in response to Teignbridge's need for affordable homes."

Additional plans for the site includes car parking, open space, as well as cycle and footpaths.

But a small group of residents have launched a petition against the plans because they believe that too many new homes are being proposed for the site.

A final planning decision is expected to be made in September.

Part exchange for a new home in Devon
Existing homeowners looking to buy a new home in Devon are being offered the opportunity to take advantage of Barratt's part exchange scheme and secure a hassle free move to the housebuilder's Torre Marine development in Torquay

"People are coming to us who are understandably keen to move up the property ladder now but don't always find it easy to sell their own home and be part of a longer chain," said Mary of Barratt.

With its part-exchange exchange service, Barratt will buy your old home with one week when you purchase one of its new homes.

"It's just like part exchanging a car," Daymond added. "We'll consider buying your current home so that you are free to buy one of ours.
