Family homes increase most in value

Fresh research from Halifax this week shows that average detached family homes have increased in value by £91 a day over the year until the end of June. Reflecting the trend and responding to the desire for more family homes, new home builder David Wilson Homes Southern has increased the amount of family homes that it has on offer in Hampshire.

The Halifax report suggests that the detached family home has seen a 13% increase in value over the year and that semi-detached properties have appreciated in value by 111% since 2000.

New homes built by David Wilson Homes in Hampshire including The Copse in Sherfield-on-Loddon and Orchard Grove in Basingstoke are examples of a housing developments that consist mainly of detached and semi-detached family homes.

Paul Moran, sales director for David Wilson Homes Southern, comments: "It has been very evident that we have experienced an increased demand for family homes over the last few years and we have responded accordingly.

"Homebuyers are looking for more space and for those that can afford the premium, detached properties are an aspirational choice. Homes are now seen as a longer term investment, so it is important that the right decision is made earlier in life."

Suren Thiru, Halifax housing economist, adds: "Although the price of all property types has been boosted by the combination of historically low interest rates and lack of properties available for sale over the past year, it is notable that detached homes have seen the largest average price rises.

"Such properties are likely to have benefited from greater demand from those buyer groups currently most able to enter the housing market."

With David Wilson Homes responding to the demand for more family homes in the region, homebuyers in Hampshire will currently have more options available to them then perhaps they have historically.

Moran continues: "Our Orchard Grove and The Copse developments in Hampshire are excellent examples of where we now mainly offer family homes and given their rural location they are also attracting families from further afield. Purchasers are staying in their homes for longer and so buying a bigger family home now will save a move again in a couple of years time."

Orchard Grove offers homebuyers a sophisticated collection of one, two, three and four bedroom family homes in Basingstoke. Prices range from £124,995 for a one bedroom end terrace home up to £419,995 for a four bedroom detached home.

The Copse currently offers a range of three and four bedroom family homes. Prices start from £268,995 for a three bedroom home up to £399,995 for a four bedroom detached home.
