U.S. property tycoon Donald Trump will almost certainly withdraw a proposal to develop what he considered would be the "world's greatest golf course" and hundreds of new homes in Aberdeenshire due to plans to develop an offshore windfarm.
Various reports suggest that Trump is on the verge of scrapping plans to build the 18-hole golf course, a five-star hotel, luxury villas and houses and timeshare apartments, as part of a major £750m scheme, despite the fact that Aberdeenshire council has just granted planning consent.
The billionaire is reportedly concerned about a proposal to develop a small wind-power project. However, it is believed that the property developer is using the planned scheme as an excuse to abandon plans for the golf course and new homes because he no longer sees the project as being financially viable.
The five-star scheme has already been delayed because of the global economic turmoil in recent years.
In a statement, Trump said: "All further plans for future development, including the hotel, are now on hold until the Scottish government makes a decision on the application for the European offshore wind deployment centre submitted by Vattenfall and Areg [Aberdeen renewable energy group].
"If the north-east of Scotland is serious about tourism and creating a global golf destination it cannot allow the coastline to be ruined by an ugly industrial park [11 64-storey test turbines] directly off the shoreline."
