Housebuilder Bloor Homes has submitted a planning application to develop 127 new homes in Felixstowe, Suffolk.
If planning consent is given, the seafront scheme will be built on a 17.5 acre site between Manor Terrace and Orford Road.
The site was previously occupied by hundreds of beach huts and the former Herman de Stern convalescent home.
Suffolk Coastal District Council gave the green light for a similar residential project to be built in the area in 2009. Approved plans included the proposal for 103 apartments and 55 houses. But construction work did not get underway due to the adverse state of the economy.
A Bloor Homes spokesman said: "The new plans have a shift in emphasis towards family homes, to meet local needs."
Mayor of Felixstowe, Doreen Savage, said: "It's one of the sites that has been a bugbear for so many years and I'm delighted the proposals for it have been brought back.
"I think the consensus of people who were at the recent town hall exhibition was 'get on with it' and it would be really nice to see [Felixstowe get] an uplift."
Anyone seeking to find a property in Felixstowe may wish to check out The Martellos development, which is being built by Hopkins Homes. The scheme features 42 one-, and two-bedroom apartments as well as 18 two-, three- and five-bedroom houses each with a private rear garden. Prices start from £122,995.
