CALA Homes gets positive public response to plans for new homes in Aberdeen

Monday 4th July 2011

Award-winning housebuilder CALA Homes has been thrilled with the level of response received by the public to the company's plans for the expansion of Milltimber on the outskirts of Aberdeen. The public consultation into the venture closed on Friday 24th June but locals still have a chance to make their voices heard. Residents with feedback forms should return them no later than Monday 1st August and views can also be expressed by writing to CALA Homes' Westhill offices.

"We would like to thank all of those who took the time to come along and speak to us about our plans," says Mike Naysmith, regional director at CALA Homes. "Having the opportunity to engage with the local community is hugely important to us during this key stage of the planning process."

The housebuilder's proposals for the new-build development in Aberdeen include a mixture of high-quality family homes, community facilities and affordable housing. In total, around 550 new homes will be built on the site. The company is also in discussions with Aberdeen City Council with a view to building a new state-of-the-art primary school to replace Milltimber Primary and serve the whole area.

Mike continues: "We received various comments on the location of the primary school which led to alternative suggestions in and around Milltimber. The nature of the proposed housing was also an important area for discussion, including getting the right mix of private and affordable housing with a clear preference for owner occupied housing and lower density development. We received mixed feedback on whether local facilities, for example retailing, is preferable to employment uses, or indeed whether housing should be the single land use within the expansion area."

The local community will be invited to have a further say in the proposals before they are submitted to the council for planning permission towards the end of this year. CALA Homes hopes to begin work on the development in 2013.
