Overview of Westminster
The Westminster property market covers the following areas:
Westminster is home to some of London's most famous tourist attractions as well as a number of different types of property. Belgravia, Westminster , Pimlico, and Mayfair attract the wealthy. Belgravia is almost virtually owned by the Grosvenor Estate since its construction in the 1840s, so freeholds are rare and building regulations strict. Head to Eaton and Chester Square for white stucco terraces.
Pimlico offers mainly apartments, family homes are a rarity here. A similar situation can be found in Soho, which has successfully reinvented itself from seedy backwater. Expect apartments and maisonettes above shops and restaurants, although balconies and roof gardens are common to compensate for the lack of gardens. Queen Anne and Georgian townhouses can be found on the roads surrounding Westminster Abbey. Marylebone has also gained a fashionable reputation while Kilburn and Paddington offer cheaper properties

Situated between Maida Vale and North Kensington is West Kilburn. Although the area still has some shabby corners, West Kilburn as a whole is undergoing regeneration. As the area begins to improve, interest in property has also rapidly increased, as prices are currently some of the cheapest in the borough. Tall four storey Victorian terraces situated in long straight roads are common along with a number of conversions. Plans are also in the pipeline for regeneration of Paddington Basin and the area around the canal, creating another hotspot for the borough.

Westminster is well served with tube access. The District and Circle lines are accessible at a number of stations including St James’s Park and Westminster, which also provides access to the Jubilee Line. Lancaster Gate and Queen’s Way are located on the Central line. For services on the Bakerloo line head towards Regent’s Park and Marylebone while Knightsbridge and Hyde Park Corner are located on the Piccadilly line. As well as providing rail services to other areas of the UK, Paddington also offers access to the District, Circle, Piccadilly and Hammersmith & City lines. Marylebone station is also situated in the borough of Westminster and features rail services to the Midlands and Buckinghamshire. There are over 50 bus services available in the borough that provide links to other areas of London.
In the pipeline: The Crossrail Scheme, a high-speed and high-capacity rail link that will take passengers from the edges of London on the east and west to the West End and City is currently in planning. The central tunnel of this rail link will run from Paddington to Whitechapel. However, it is not expected to be ready for use before 2013.
