Sanctuary Housing have been given planning consent to build a small development of 12 affordable homes in Thornton-le-Dale in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire.

Demand for retirement homes has started to slow, as a consequence of the slowdown in the mainstream property market, according to Guy Mossop of Fifty5Plus.

Mossop reports that there is generally always demand for retirement homes in spite of mainstream property market conditions, because most people buying retirement homes generally do not need mortgage finance as they tend to have funds to buy a retirement home outright.

Friendly, full of character and with some of the best-value new homes in the White Rose county, it is well worth launching a house-hunting expedition to South Yorkshire. Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster are the main hubs but they are surrounded by some stunning, historic villages all served by the M1, M18 and A1.

High property prices and tight mortgage lending conditions have made it very difficult for many people to buy a new home, including key workers on modest incomes. This is why the government and new home developers are keen to see more affordable homes built.  

Many people often want to release equity from their home or downsize to a smaller property when they get older, as their housing needs often change.

The Sanctuary Group, the housing and care provider, together with its partners NHS Cambridgeshire, Fenland District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council, celebrated the first milestone of a £9m scheme to construct affordable homes for older people on the Doddington Community Hospital site.
