Edinburgh loses ‘most expensive property' crown

Recent figures released by the Registers of Scotland reveal that East Dunbartonshire has overtaken Edinburgh as the local authority area in Scotland with the highest average house price. Property prices in the city of Edinburgh have fallen from an average of £229,691 in July-September 2010 to £216,597 in the quarter from October to December 2010, a decrease of 5.7%.

New home sales at Redrow's The Glades development in the village of Downton, Wiltshire, have soared during the early part of 2011, with the developer selling five properties in just two weeks. Exactly half of all the properties in the development have now been sold.

With record rents, high demand and low interest rates on mortgages, now is an excellent time to buy-to-let - and with a wide choice of new-build developments in Bristol, the South West's biggest city is attracting an increasing number of investors.

There's no doubt that many prospective housebuyers currently searching for their first new homes in Lancashire are finding it difficult to come up with the deposit required by many lenders or are unable to secure an affordable mortgage. As if to add insult to injury, rents appear to be rising fast in some areas as the people unable to buy apply pressure to the limited supply in the rental market.

East Anglian housebuilder prepares for expansion

Suffolk-based housebuilder Hopkins Homes has recruited four more employees - making 13 in under a year - as it prepares to add more homes to its extensive regional portfolio with schemes in Essex and Cambridgshire.

Plymouth Argyle football club could be forced to sell its stadium to developers in order to clear multi-million-pound debts, reports local newspaper The Herald.
