Will 7,500 new homes in Brent Cross be built?
The first stage of the two part meeting to decide outcome of the £4.5 billion Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration plans, which includes the potential construction of 7,500 brand new homes, was heard last night (Thursday).
Close to 200 people attended Barnet Council's planning committee meeting, including Liberal Democrat Brent East MP Sara Teather, Tory London Assembly member and mayor of Barnet Brian Coleman and fellow Labour assembly member Navin Shah.
Representatives of a coalition of residents groups spoke of their fears over traffic, the environmental impact, the effect on communities and wildlife, the size and density of the development plans and the provision of public transport.
However, a spokesperson for the scheme, in the presence of the press, said: “This is the only plan on the table. If it's refused there's not an alternative plan. We cannot wait another ten years for something else to come up, with yet another generation there with no development.”
Proposals for the new Brent Cross/Cricklewood town centre includes the construction of
a new mainline rail station, health facilities, parks, open spaces, 7,500 new homes, three schools, and the creation of 27,000 jobs
