Barratts to build new homes in Wednesbury
New home developer Barratt West Midlands’ has received a government pledge of £1.9 million to press ahead with its plans to build a new home development on Leabrook Road in Wednesbury.
Barratt says that the capital injection will help create new jobs and ensure that more new homes are available to buy next year.
Graydon Worthing, sales director for Barratt West Midlands, commented: “This is another welcome boost for the local economy and great news for anyone hoping to buy a new home of their own in the West Midlands.
“This is a major national scheme and to qualify for the money we had to meet some extremely tight criteria. The fact that our new homes at Leabrook Road were chosen is a great vote of confidence in this outstanding development.”
The money is part of a £450m government scheme called Kickstart, which has been distributed to selected new home developments across the country.
Housing Minister John Healey said: “This Kickstart cash is a rapid response to the recession, using the power of Government investment to support the country through the downturn. With this investment, we are creating jobs and helping build the homes people need.”
Construction work at Leabrook Road has already got underway and a sales launch is due for summer 2010.
